The NSW Ecumenical Council invites applications for the role of General Secretary—a vital and dynamic 24-hour-per-week position based in Sydney CBD. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the Council’s mission of fostering unity among its 18 diverse member churches and building positive relationships with the broader community on matters of faith, justice, and peace.
The successful candidate will be a person of integrity, grounded in their Christian faith, and inspired by the rich history and ongoing journey of ecumenism. They will demonstrate:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate and share the Council’s vision.
- A willingness to engage with modern tools such as databases, newsletters, and social media platforms to enhance the Council’s outreach.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the Executive, Core Group, and Commissions.
- A commitment to nurturing relationships across Christian and non-Christian faith communities, as well as secular organizations.
The General Secretary will oversee the Council’s day-to-day operations, coordinate events that inspire and connect, and maintain relationships that support ecumenical and interfaith collaboration. They will be supported by an administration assistant and will occasionally travel within NSW, with some flexibility for remote work.
